Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander had 45 goals last season, and as a result, he is receiving accolades in his home country of Sweden that are well-deserved.
Now, Nylander will be looking to match or exceed last year's torrid pace. Furthermore, he is going to be playing for Sweden at the Olympics, which will be a huge honor for him.
William Nylander wins the Guldpucken
Speaking of Sweden, according to Expressen, Nylander was bestowed a huge honor in his Native country, and as you can imagine, he is feeling emotional about it.
He was given the Guldpucken award, which is given to the best Swedish hockey player in any given year.
It's a very special feeling. It's maybe a goal you always keep in the back of your mind, trying to be Sweden's best player. I really appreciate being chosen because we have so many great Swedish hockey players.
There are some incredible hockey players in Sweden, so far Nylander to get this award is pretty huge, all things considered.
Going into next season, he has a great opportunity to win it all over again, but he is going to have to keep his feet on the gas pedal.
Without
Mitch Marner, the Maple Leafs are going to need Nylander to step up his game, and there is a real chance for him to do that.
Only time will tell whether or not Nylander hits the 50-goal plateau, or takes a backseat to
Auston Matthews.
