Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nick Robertson has officially signed a new contract with the team, although his future doesn't seem all that secure.
Nick Robertson signed a new contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday. It was for one year at an AAV of $1.85 million.
Overall, this is a rich contract when you consider the kind of playing time Robertson was given last season. If you are a fan of the team, you can't help but think this was a robbery from the forward.
Regardless, the Leafs have gotten a major bit of business finished up, and now, they can focus on making some other big moves in free agency.

With the new Robertson contract in mind, there has been quite a bit of conjecture about what is going to happen next.
One report states that this could be a precursor to a trade, as the Maple Leafs aren't going to want to keep this contract on their books.
Hard to know what to make of the Robertson contract, but it's definitely high for how TOR has deployed him to this point

While this may be true, it is hard to imagine a world in which the Toronto Maple Leafs are able to find a trade partner before training camp begins.
The contract has a high AAV, and that would be the case for every team in the league. Of course, there are some teams that might be more willing to keep a guy like Robertson on the roster.
Whatever the case may be, this is not going to be an easy situation for the Leafs going forward.
Only time will tell whether or not Robertson stays and manages to live up to the terms of his new contract.
