When you think of some of the most beloved NHL players of the last two decades, you can't help but think of TJ Oshie of the Washington Capitals and St. Louis Blues.
TJ Oshie is a player who has seen it all throughout his NHL career. The Stanley Cup champion became a hero in the 2014 Olympics for the United States.
Furthermore, in 2018, he had an amazing Cup run with 21 points in 24 games. He was a huge reason for the Capitals winning the cup that year, and the fan base adored him.
Of course, prior to this, he was a stud with the St. Louis Blues. You can imagine just how sad the fans were to see him go. But for nine seasons, Oshie has stayed loyal to Washington.
TJ Oshie to announce retirement
According to Greg Wyshynski of ESPN, Oshie is set to announce his retirement on Monday at the Washington Harbour in Georgetown.
Based on all of the context clues surrounding the planned announcement, one can only assume that retirement is going to be the next step for the beloved Capital.
T.J. Oshie of @Capitals will make a special announcement on Monday, June 9 at Washington Harbour in Georgetown. This date coincides with the anniversary of Oshie and the team swimming in the fountains two days after winning the Stanley Cup on June 7, 2018.
Oshie finishes his career with 695 points in 1010 games. This includes 302 goals and 393 assists. He also had 69 playoff points in 106 games, with 34 of those being goals.
He is certainly someone that the fans are going to miss as he enters this next chapter of his career. Only time will tell whether or not he continues to work in hockey.
But at 38 years old, he can definitely hang his head up high and be proud of everything he was able to do in what will be looked upon as a solid NHL career.
We wish Oshie the best of luck moving forward. We will miss watching him play.
