The Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames game was delayed after a fan collapsed behind the Edmonton bench just one minute into the hockey game.
A scary scene took place in Edmonton tonight as a fan collapsed behind the bench leading to a medical emergency. The game was subsequently delayed.
Oilers reporter Daniel Nugent-Bowman relayed the message that was sent on the PA during the game, noting that there would be a delay due to a lack of doctors on site.
A doctor had to escort the fan who collapsed, and that led to some gaps in care.
PA announcer Al Stafford said the game has been temporarily paused 1:15 into the first period due to a medical emergency.
The medical emergency happened in the stands, a few rows up from the Oilers bench.
However, not long after the announcement over the PA system, it was revealed that an extra ambulance had arrived on site and that the doctor was back in the building.
Edmonton Oilers Vs. Calgary Flames continues
The game eventually resumed and at the time of writing this, the score is 1-0 in favor of the Flames who scored very early on in the tilt.
As for the fan's condition, that is currently unknown and we are praying that they are going to be okay.
You never want to see something like this happen, especially at a hockey game which is supposed to be a joyous time, particularly for that fan.
We commend the medical staff at the arena for being so quick to the fan's aid and giving them a chance during these horrific circumstances.
Our thoughts go out to this fan, their friends, family, and even the spectators who had to watch all of this go down.
