NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman Shuts Down Multiple Revolutionary Ideas for the Game of Hockey

Gary Bettman is likely going to retire as commissioner of the NHL very soon, however, in the meantime, he still has some big decisions to make.

With the league looking to modernize itself and improve the hockey product, there have been some interesting ideas floating around.

One such idea involves a decentralized draft where teams don't actually have to be in the building. The other idea is around overtime and adding a few minutes so that there are less shootouts.

Today, Bettman spoke to reporters and it was made clear his position on a whole host of controversial topics within the game of hockey.

For instance, he does not want to extend the length of overtime, citing concerns for the health and safety of the players.

Meanwhile, the decentralized draft idea does not seem to be a popular one for Bettman. It is easy to see why he would feel that way given the fact that the in-person draft is better for TV and sponsors.

At the end of the day, there are other ways that the NHL can revolutionize the game of hockey and make things different for the fans.
