The Toronto Maple Leafs and their AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies, have made a last-second trade of sorts following the fallout at the NHL deadline.
Well it appears as though the team has done just that, acquiring winger
Brandon Baddock from the Chicago Blackhawks farm team, the Rockford Ice Dogs.
Brandon Baddock to the Toronto Marlies
The Marlies only had to give up future considerations to acquire Baddock which makes sense when you consider the winger's statistics.
He only has 7 points in 38 games this season and even has 86 penalty minutes which gives you a good indication of what his role is going to be.
The Marlies have added more depth after losing pieces at the NHL trade deadline.
Toronto adds Brandon Baddock from Rockford for future considerations. 6-foot-3 physical winger who has 7 points and 86 PIMs in 38 games
Ice Hogs general manager Mark Bernard put out a statement on the trade, noting that Baddock was a beloved player who made a lot of contributions to the team and the community.
I want to thank Brandon and his family for all of their contributions on and off the ice during the past two seasons. Brandon and his wife Hannah have made an incredible impact in the Rockford community right from the start of their time here.
With the roster constraints we have experienced this season regarding the league's Veteran Rule, I wanted to provide Brandon the opportunity to play night in and night out.
Overall, these are the kinds of trades that a team makes when they need some extra bodies on the roster.
While this may not make a huge impact on offense, you can't help but be excited about a physical player coming into the mix.
Hopefully, this is the start of a long and prosperous relationship with Brandon Baddock.
