NHL analyst and former pro goalie Carter Hutton had some very harsh words for Toronto Maple Leafs superstar Mitch Marner who was bad against the Florida Panthers.
Mitch Marner is a superstar caliber player, however, the knock against him is that he has always turned into dust whenever the playoffs come around.
Carter Hutton lays into Mitch Marner
This was a massive game for the Maple Leafs who were trying to prove that they can hang as the best team in the Atlantic Division.
Instead, they lost and the Florida Panthers were able to increase their stranglehold on the division which is the exact opposite of what the Leafs need right now.
This angered NHL analyst and former professional goalie Carter Hutton, who hit Mitch Marner with a very harsh reality check.
"We've seen it before and there's reason to worry. It's the same thing over and over again and for me. What I see from Mitch Marner is the fact he's just a perimeter guy at all costs. Teams know that they're going to grind him out. Think about the interference we saw tonight. That just gets heightened in the playoffs. That's playoff hockey and that tonight was not playoff hockey from superstars. Yes, it was a playoff-like game, but your big boys weren't there."
While some may find this particularly harsh, it absolutely needs to be said right now.
The Maple Leafs are on the verge of a playoff run and if they get this kind of production out of Marner and
Auston Matthews, then they will be an early round exit yet again.
It is a sad reality but this is what it has come to with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
We have seen this all play out before and it just feels like we are stuck in an infinite loop of big-game mediocrity.
