Florida Panthers forward Brad Marchand spoke to the media today for the first time since being traded by his longtime team, the Boston Bruins.

Brad Marchand was the heart and soul of the Boston Bruins for many years and it is unfathomable to think he will play for another team.
On Friday, the Bruins traded their captain to the Florida Panthers for a pitiful return that amounts to a bag of pucks and some drill cones.

Brad Marchand says goodbye to the Boston Bruins

While Marchand remains sidelined with an injury, he spoke to the Florida media for the first time and spoke about the trade as well as his excitement to play for the Panthers.
Unsurprisingly, the former Bruin was emotional about his departure and got choked up on more than a couple of occasions.
"I'm extremely proud of how things went there"

"It was very disappointing things didn't get done. I love the organization and wanted to stay there but I know business is business"
Marchand also put out a massive statement in the Boston Globe where he said goodbye to the fans and thanked them for a over a decade of good times.
"To Boston,

Thank you for welcoming me into this great city when I was just a young Canadian kid looking to break into the best league in the world. You allowed me to achieve my dream of playing in the National Hockey League and winning the Stanley Cup.

For this, I am forever grateful. You also embraced me from day one and immediately brought me into your family. Since that time, I have become a husband and a father to a beautiful family. My family is your family: We are Bostonians now and forever.

Representing this city as captain of the Boston Bruins was the greatest honor of my life, and it was a privilege to wear the Spoked B over the past 16 years. Boston will always be a part of me, and it will always be a part of my family.

There are far too many people I want to thank to be able to include in this short note, but just know how grateful I am for the time I spent in Boston playing for the Bruins.

Thank you."

It is going to be hard to imagine Marchy in a Panthers jersey, especially in the context of the Toronto Maple Leafs who still have to see him in the Atlantic Division.
The Panthers have to be favorites to make it through the Eastern Conference again.
Only time will tell whether or not Brad Marchand helps them go back-to-back.
