Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Easton Cowan isn't guaranteed to make the team this season, although he could be the answer to Auston Matthews' problems.
Easton Cowan is one of the biggest question marks going into the Toronto Maple Leafs season, as no one actually knows whether or not he will pan out.
Having said that, there are some who believe the Leafs should give him a chance next season, no matter what happens. After all, it would be a great way to develop.
Not to mention, the Maple Leafs have some roster holes that need to be filled, and while it is a lofty goal, there is a chance that Cowan might just be the answer.

According to Steven Ellis of The Daily Faceoff, the Maple Leafs should actually consider putting Cowan on the top line with Auston Matthews.
The team desperately needs a first line right-winger, and while Cowan is mostly seen as a middle-six guy, there is a world where Cowan excels with good players.

Putting Cowan on the first line this season does come across like a stretch, but we certainly understand the logic of it.
That said, there is a chance that Cowan doesn't play a single game with the Leafs at all. Either way, the fans are going to be paying attention.
Overall, the Maple Leafs are going to be an interesting team headed into this season, as the departure of Mitch Marner has created some narratives about how good the team really is.
However, that also means it will be a difficult season for the Leafs, where absolutely nothing is guaranteed.
