However, things could have gotten even worse for the Leafs on Tuesday night as their captain,
Auston Matthews, was injured in the first period.
The captain took a slapshot off of his hand and was immediately in a ton of pain. He ended up coming off of the ice and spent some time on the bench.
In the clip below, you can see that Matthews was chilling for the most part. We say that literally as he had a bag of ice on his hand so that he could get better.
Overall, Matthews eventually came back to the game and seemed to be doing okay. However, that did not stop fans from being concerned.
Unfortunately, when Matthews did return to the game, he was completely and utterly invisible, until the third period when his giveaway caused a goal.
At this point, fans are frustrated and they feel like the Maple Leafs are about to surrender yet another big playoff lead and then lose.
If that happens, this team might just need a real blow up or something.
Mitch Marner can't return under conditions like that.
Only time will tell what happens. Game 6 goes down on Thursday in Ottawa. The Leafs better hope they put their best foot forward in this one.
