Tonight is Game 5 between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Ottawa Senators and as it turns out, one team might be at an advantage due to the referees.
Toronto Maple Leafs fans are eager to watch tonight's game between the Leafs and the Ottawa Senators with a spot in the second round on the line.
Having said that, fans want every reason to be optimistic for this game. Unfortunately, the NHL's choice in referees will not be one of those reasons.
Referees for Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Ottawa Senators tonight
Frederick L'Ecuyer and Dan O'Rourke are the referees tonight while the linesmen working the game will be Scott Cherrey and Libor Suchanek.
This is a great officiating crew but when you look at these teams' records when these two refs are officiating this season, things begin to look bleak for the Leafs.
According to Maple Leafs Daily, the Leafs record is 4-4-1 while the Senators record is a whopping 8-1-1. Of course, don't read too much into this one.
Tonight, the Leafs will want to jump out to an early lead and hold on for dear life all the way until the final whistle. That will be the best way to win the series.
If not, a Game 6 in Ottawa is a scary proposition that a lot of fans don't even want to be thinking about right now and for absolutely good reason.
The Senators are a team that can feast on momentum and the Leafs would absolutely hate to have that happen at this point in the series.
Hopefully, the referees just let the boys play and there is nothing to worry about. That would be the ideal way for this to go.
