Mitch Marner left the Toronto Maple Leafs this week, and there is no evidence to suggest Auston Matthews, John Tavares, and William Nylander actually care.
When Mitch Marner was traded from the Toronto Maple Leafs to the Las Vegas Golden Knights earlier this week, a lot of fans felt betrayed.
As the hometown kid, Marner could have been a king in this city, especially if he had stayed in Toronto until retirement. Add a Stanley Cup into the mix, and he would have been a sure-fire Hall of Famer.
Instead, he chose the easy way out, and now, if he were to win a Cup in Vegas, it would mean infinitely less.
Auston Matthews silent on Mitch Marner
Earlier in the week, the Leafs thanked Marner for his contributions on social media. However, little was said by members of the Core 4, like William Nylander and John Tavares.
Perhaps the most telling silence was from Auston Matthews, who has yet to say a word. While he reportedly shared the "thank you," he hasn't done anything else beyond that.
The fact that the rest of the Core 4 hasn't said a word, or even made a post about Marner, who they played with for almost a decade says A LOT about Marner and this entire situation.

Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner were linemates for years, and there has been no true public acknowledgement from the captain about the breakup.
This will only fuel speculation that there was some underlying animosity between the two of them. After all, some felt like Marner was jealous of Matthews.
Moreover, there were reports this week that the vibe in the Maple Leafs locker room was completely off, with everyone understanding that Marner was on his way out.
Ultimately, this could be the reset the Leafs need. To move and think about bigger and better things.
