With
Auston Matthews and
Matthew Knies expected to return against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Steeves was sent back to clear roster space for the top-line forwards.
Struggles for Alex Steeves
Alex Steeves appeared in four games during his recent stint with the Leafs and averaged 11:01 of ice time but recorded no points.
Despite this, he impressed with his speed, effort and physical play by registering 11 hits and four shots on goal.
His performance earned him the longest NHL travel of his career and has for sure helped him for future call-ups with the team.
Steeves does not require waivers for reassignment on a two-way contract and this is making him a flexible roster option.
Ranked as the Leafs' #10 prospect entering the 2024-25 season, Alex Steeves will aim to regain his momentum with the Marlies in the AHL.
It has been a tough road for the Maple Leafs player, and one has to wonder if he will get more opportunities with this roster.
At this point, the Leafs are rolling, and they seem happy with what they've got.
