Florida Panthers forward Brad Marchand will have to think long and hard about free agency soon, and the Toronto Maple Leafs are still a consideration.
Despite being in the midst of a Stanley Cup Finals run with the Florida Panthers, Brad Marchand has found himself at the center of free agency rumors.
Overall, the forward is going to be one of the most sought-after players on July 1st, even if he is 37 years old and nearing the end of his career.
Based on his play as of late, it is crystal clear that he still has a lot left to give, and the game is a better place with him in it.
Brad Marchand's value in free agency
Well, that changed today as
TSN insider Chris Johnston appeared on his podcast with an update on Marchand. As he explained, the forward wants a three to four-year deal.
Presumably, this kind of contract would take him until the end of his career, where he will retire past the age of 40.
If Marchand does get a four-year deal, then he probably won't be making $8 million per season. A 40-year-old making that kind of money just doesn't make sense. At some point, he will face a steep decline.
Of course, if the Florida Panthers manage to win the Stanley Cup this season, there is a world where he tried to run things back with his current team.
Only time will tell what is in store for Marchand, who will go down as a Hall of Famer when all is said and done.
