Florida Panthers forward Brad Marchand is currently preoccupied with the Stanley Cup Finals, but he does have to worry about free agency, which is coming up soon.
Brad Marchand has consistently been one of the best players in the NHL over the last decade. Although he is not the offensive machine he once was, he is still very much respected around the NHL.
This summer, Marchand is going to be a free agent. While he has had a good run with the Florida Panthers, there has been a feeling that he will go elsewhere.
One of the teams vying for the forward is none other than the Toronto Maple Leafs, who could use a hard-nosed veteran to bolster this roster.
Is Brad Marchand signing with the Toronto Maple Leafs?
Prior to Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals, Marchand was asked about free agency and whether or not he would be interested in signing with a Canadian team.
This led to a very interesting answer that is going to perk up a lot of ears. It all but confirms that Marchand is willing to hear offers from the Maple Leafs.
Yeah, I mean, I'm going to listen to anything. We'll deal with it when the time comes, and we'll see what the right fit is.
Of course, Marchand is 37 years old, which means his next contract is probably only going to be for two to three years. Although if the Leafs lose Mitch Marner, they could use a guy like Marchand.
Marchand had 51 points in 71 games this season. However, he has hit another level in the playoffs with 15 points in 18 games. He even had a goal last night against the Edmonton Oilers.
This summer is going to be a ball for free agency, and we cannot wait to see what goes down. For the Maple Leafs, this will be a make-or-break summer.
Of course, there is still a lot to figure out here. First, Marchand needs to finish out the Stanley Cup Finals. Then and only then will he start to think about his next steps.
