Brad Marchand Reportedly Eyeing Canadian Team in Free Agency

Brad Marchand was traded from the Boston Bruins to the Florida Panthers in a move that was quite shocking to a lot of people.

However, the captain was in a contract dispute with his longtime team, and the Bruins franchise ultimately chose to make a business decision.

Unfortunately for them, this is a business decision that has not gone over very well given Marchand's overwhelming popularity in the city.

Having said that, a lot of the attention has now shifted to free agency, where Marchand will have a huge decision to make.

Of course, he can re-sign with the Florida Panthers, or, he could just take his talents elsewhere and go to a team that is very much in need of his leadership.

According to John Buccigross of ESPN, it would appear as though there are two Original Six teams who will be frontrunners for Brad Marchand.

Those two teams are the Chicago Blackhawks and shockingly, the Montreal Canadiens.

During the trade deadline cycle, there were all sorts of rumors about how the Toronto Maple Leafs were attempting to trade for the superstar.

However, it was also reported that the Bruins were refusing to trade Marchand to the Maple Leafs, which makes a lot of sense considering these two teams are mortal enemies.

One has to wonder what Marchand must be thinking as his next NHL contract is likely going to be his last.

He is going to want to go out on top and playing for rebuilding teams isn't exactly the best way to do such a thing. Hopefully, he can figure out something that works for him.
