Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews dealt with a nagging injury all season long, and it led to a lot of speculation amongst Leafs fans.
Throughout this past season, Maple Leafs captain
Auston Matthews was clearly dealing with some kind of injury.
He had to miss games, and at one point, he traveled all the way to Germany just to figure things out. At the time, this was pegged as some sort of grand solution.
However, as the season went on, his injury never went away. While he still managed 78 points in 67 games, Matthews only had 33 goals.
This was a huge downgrade from his 69 goals in the previous season. In the playoffs, the struggles continued for Matthews, and fans were getting filled with some very valid concerns.
What injury is Auston Matthews dealing with?
Yesterday, while speaking to the media, Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving was asked about Matthews and his apparent injury.
Treliving noted that the Leafs didn't sit Matthews out to recuperate because it was something that he could play through. The general manager even took aim at reporter Luke Fox for the question, saying that this was typical of Fox's reporting style.
He was able to play through it.
Clearly, the captain is going to take the entire summer off and just focus on getting his body healthy. After all, next season is an important one for this team.
If
Mitch Marner leaves, then the team is going to rely heavily upon Matthews for some offense.
