Breakout Toronto Maple Leafs Star Now Receiving Olympic Considerations

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Matthew Knies has been sensational this season and it would appear as though the U.S. Olympic Team could be calling his number.
Matthew Knies has been having a breakout season with the Toronto Maple Leafs and the fans absolutely love the guy, and for good reason.
With 27 goals and 26 assists this season, Knies is proving himself to be the kind of player that can do it all, especially on that first line with Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner.
The Phoenix native continues to do big things and it seems pretty clear that he will be getting more opportunities to showcase his talents over the coming years.
Matthews Knies at the Olympics?
In fact, in a new article for The Athletic, Pierre LeBrun delivered an interesting take about next season.
Essentially, he believes Knies could play himself into a spot on the U.S. Olympic team, which would be absolutely massive.
This is probably a long shot, especially given that he's only completing his second full NHL season, but what I would say is this: If the Maple Leafs were to go on a deep playoff run (I know, I know), there's no question in my mind that the 22-year-old Knies will have distinguished himself in said run.
He's getting his third taste of the Stanley Cup playoffs, and his game and 6-foot-3, 227-pound frame are meant to translate to this time of year. So, this is all tied to the Leafs finally getting over the hump, but if they do, it could really bump Knies up the Olympic radar.

Some might say it is way too early to make a declaration like that but you really never know.
Knies has proven to be a great player and if Team USA wants some depth, then he would be someone to look at.
For now, however, the forward is paying more attention to the NHL playoffs, where the Leafs are looking to go on a deep playoff run, something that has been lacking for this team over the years.
Hopefully, Knies continues his career with the Toronto Maple Leafs. You never want to give up guys like that.
