Toronto Maple Leafs forward Scott Laughton had two points in 15 games with the team and general manager Brad Treliving is about to face the music for it.
Although he played a few games in that role, he was eventually put on the wing on the fourth line before being bumped back up to the wing on the third line.
Scott Laughton has been bad for the Toronto Maple Leafs
Fans are starting to get fed up, especially when you consider how this was touted to be the savior for the team's bottom six. He has been anything but that.
In fact, The Athletic's Kevin Papetti took the Toronto Maple Leafs' management to task on social media last night as the Leafs were getting walked all over by the Florida Panthers. He made some great points noting that this move may just make upper management look foolish in the long run.
Giving up a first for Laughton, rather than a major difference maker, feels like it's going to come back to bite them
At this point, the Laughton experiment has been a failure and there is no telling whether or not things will turn around for the postseason.
Ultimately, the playoffs are much harder and Laughton hasn't exactly played for a team that gets a lot of playoff reps.
When you play against teams like the Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning, you need everyone firing on all cylinders, which Laughton is not doing.
While Treliving won't lose his job over this move, there is no doubt that he will continue to face scrutiny for trading for a player who probably wasn't worth a first-round pick.
