On trade deadline day, the Toronto Maple Leafs sent Nikita Grebenkin to the Philadelphia Flyers for Scott Laughton, a move that remains controversial.
Overall, this trade has proven to be a bit of a head-scratcher considering the fact that the Leafs gave up
Nikita Grebenkin and a first-round pick for a guy who has not registered a point in nine games.
Grebenkin was someone that the fans loved because of his personality and as it turns out, he kept that personality with him until the very end.
Nikita Grebenkin has no ill will towards the Toronto Maple Leafs
Recently, Grebenkin was interviewed by Mark Masters who asked him about the day he was traded and the emotions that came with that.
This led to a very honest yet hilarious answer from the Russian forward, who noted that there were no hard feelings and that he completely understands how this is a business where tough decisions need to be made.
«Treliving tell me, 'Nikita, you're a nice guy, but we traded you.' I said, 'Brad, no problem. Go Leafs Go! It's business.' I don't worry.»
Since joining the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the AHL, Grebenkin has managed three points in four games, three of those being goals.
Although he probably won't be a top six forward, his ceiling is the third line and he is a gritty guy that a lot of teams are going to like. He is perfect for the Philadelphia Flyers franchise.
One has to wonder whether or not Laughton is going to start getting it together in time for the playoffs or if his struggles are going to continue.
He is a player that fans want to see be successful but so far, he has been a bit of a pain in the team's side thanks to bad results.
As for Grebenkin, Leafs fans will continue to have fond memories of his brief time here.
