This week, the Toronto Maple Leafs signed Luke Haymes out of Dartmouth College and now, the standout forward is set to make his Toronto Marlies debut.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have been busy over the past week or so as they have signed two NCAA players in
John Prokop and
Luke Haymes.
Luke Haymes to play for the Toronto Marlies this weekend
This week, Haymes and Prokop are in Toronto where they are taking part in Marlies practice, down in the American Hockey League.
The plan is to have them play this weekend which means they will be making their professional hockey debuts. This is an incredible achievement and Maple Leafs fans are going to be very interested in how they handle the assignment.
Meanwhile, Luke Haymes spoke to the media where he revealed why he chose to sign with the Toronto Maple Leafs over all of the other eligible teams.
«Being a younger guy to come out of college, I wanted a place that would really develop me and somewhere with opportunity as well.»
The Leafs are pretty deep when it comes to their young prospects and it is good to see NCAA players coming to play with the team.
Despite losing
Fraser Minten and
Nikita Grebenkin, they now have Prokop and Haymes, which will inspire some confidence in this team's front office.
Whether or not either player ends up on the Maple Leafs next season still remains to be seen.
Joseph Woll and
Bobby McMann are huge NCAA success stories and these latest signings have similar potential.
If you are a Maple Leafs fan, there is no doubt that the future is bright and we can't wait to see Prokop and Haymes do their thing.
