Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Chris Tanev was recently asked about Anthony Stolarz and his epic rant against his Toronto Maple Leafs teammates.
Stolarz's quotes after the game were quite spectacular, and the fallout has been wild to watch, as analysts can't help but agree with the goaltender.
It was a good 3rd period, but first two periods we kind of let them walk all over us ... They outworked us in front of the net. They blocked shots. They beat us up & down the ice & the score was indicative of that. They just outworked us plain & simple. It's just playing hard. Maybe we can take a page out of their book & get to the net. We like to go low to high & shoot but for their goalie it's like playing catch ... We're not making it difficult. We made it difficult in the 3rd & look what happened
As for the goaltender's teammates, you would think they'd be upset with what he had to say, especially as he took some direct shots at guys like
William Nylander.
Chris Tanev gives an honest assessment of Anthony Stolarz
However, that has not been the case at all. For instance, Chris Tanev couldn't help but agree but also praise Stolarz for being a leader on the team.
He's vocal. He's a leader. He's very competitive & always plays well in big moments.
In the aftermath of the goaltender's rant, there have been some fans calling for Stolarz to be given a letter, whether that be the C or the A.
Of course, goaltenders cannot get a letter in the NHL. Instead, it is usually completely symbolic, like what we saw with Roberto Luongo about a decade ago.
Whatever the case may be, the Maple Leafs need to be a whole lot better in front of Anthony Stolarz, going forward.
