Buffalo Sabres forward Alex Tuch needs a new contract, and with the Buffalo Sabres continuing to struggle, there is a sense that the Toronto Maple Leafs could pounce.
Alex Tuch has scored over 30 goals on two separate occasions for the Buffalo Sabres, and there is no denying that he is a potential point-per-game player.
There is a fear that the Sabres are going to have to overpay for Tuch. After all, how else do you keep a player on a team that isn't going to contend for a Stanley Cup?
The Sabres are in an awful position, and if they don't want to overpay for Tuch, then they are going to have to make some difficult decisions.
Alex Tuch and the Buffalo Sabres negotiate a new deal
According to David Pagnotta, there is a very good chance that the Sabres decide to put Tuch on the trading market come February and March.
It would be a nuclear option, but if Tuch isn't going to re-sign with the team, they are better off going out and getting some bang for their buck first.
I'm curious though how much longer this goes with Tuch; if by New Year, Olympic break...may have to turn around and say we may not have a choice here, we may have to start exploring the market
If Tuch goes on the trade block, then the Toronto Maple Leafs should seriously consider making a run at him. As a right-handed right wing who can score goals, he would be perfect on a line with
Auston Matthews.
Unfortunately, he would also cost the Maple Leafs a ton of assets, assets that the team doesn't necessarily have right about now.
General Manager Brad Treliving has some big decisions to make, and we're sure Tuch will be one of the players on his radar as the season marches on.
