Easton Cowan has been sent down to the Toronto Marlies, and Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube isn't exactly ecstatic about this development.

Yesterday, the Toronto Maple Leafs had to make the difficult decision to send Easton Cowan down to the Toronto Marlies, as Scott Laughton returned to the lineup.
The Leafs had an abundance of forwards, and since Cowan didn't require waivers, he pulled the shortest straw. However, some Leafs fans are upset with the decision.
In 10 games, he had four points, and while the production wasn't always there, he was consistently creating offense, regardless of what line he was playing on.
Even head coach Craig Berube couldn't help but be a bit upset with the decision, as he made his feelings be known after Wednesday's win against the Utah Mammoth.

Craig Berube talks Easton Cowan

When the media asked about the decision to send down Cowan, Berube immediately deflected the blame to Brad Treliving, saying that he would be better off answering that question.
It was a very interesting comment to make, especially when you consider how Berube went on to proclaim that Cowan is an NHL-caliber talent.
I've been happy with Easton... I think he's shown he can play in the NHL and be a good player in the NHL. Just the process with him a little bit.
While Berube and Treliving may disagree on the decision, it was one that needed to be made, especially with the situation the Leafs were facing.
Regardless, losing a young, talented player like that can certainly do damage to a lineup and its chemistry. That said, it didn't hurt the team too much as they defeated a strong Mammoth roster.
Only time will tell if and when Cowan will be back with the Maple Leafs this season. We imagine an injury will get him back into the lineup.
For now, he will get to develop with the Toronto Marlies, and this should prove to be a good way for him to develop his game.
