Toronto Maple Leafs put in one of their worst performances of the entire season on Wednesday night.
However, a win would make it so that Game 7 is on home ice at the Scotiabank Arena on Sunday. Needless to say, there is a lot at stake right now.
Craig Berube addresses Toronto Maple Leafs fans
However, perhaps his most powerful statement was the one that he made to fans. Effectively, he promised that the Leafs would be a whole lot better on Friday night.
A loss is a loss. If we would have lost 2-1 and it was a close game, would it really matter today?
We got beat. I've been in this situation before.
We're all going to be down and dejected, but we can't be. We have to regroup, we will be a lot better in Game 6.
The fans are hoping that this is going to be true, although the performance we saw in Game 5 certainly contradicts the idea that these guys are motivated.
Overall, the Leafs' superstars have not been good enough in this series, and that is a real problem. Tonight, they must show up and execute.
As for the Panthers, they will be very motivated to knock off the Leafs, once and for all. They are the defending champions and they are starting to play a lot like it.
Only time will tell whether or not this Leafs team truly has the heart to come back and force that pivotal Game 7. If one thing is certain, fans will be praying for it.
