Craig Berube Makes Eye-Opening Comments After Auston Matthews Get his Mojo Back

Auston Matthews had been going through a goal drought of sorts up until Saturday when he finally got a fluke goal against the Ottawa Senators.

On Monday night, the captain's Maple Leafs were taking on the Calgary Flames on Amazon Prime Monday Night Hockey and the pressure was on to get the win.

The team showed up and showed out with a 6-2 win in which Matthews was able to score two goals and an assist.

Now, Matthews has 26 goals and 34 assists on the season in 52 games, which is fairly decent pace despite his supposed nagging injury.

This was the kind of game that the captain needed to have amid all of the narratives surrounding the Toronto Maple Leafs right now.

After the game, head coach Craig Berube spoke about Matthews and had some laissez-faire comments that are certainly an indication of what Chief thinks of Auston.

While it isn't much, Craig Berube is essentially saying that he knows what Auston Matthews is capable of and the guy is doing it every time he touches the ice.

The captain has been more of a lead by example kind of guy so this should not come as a surprise to people. Unfortunately, his example hadn't been great for a few games and it showed in the results.

Now, the Leafs need to be able to keep this up over a prolonged period of time especially as the team prepares to play the Colorado Avalanche next.

Only time will tell whether or not Matthews can keep his goal-scoring going ahead of the playoffs.
