Craig Berube Responds as the Toronto Maple Leafs get Called Out for Building a Nasty Reputation

Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube was known for being a gritty guy in the NHL and it seems like that mentality has rubbed off on his team.
Craig Berube was brought in as head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs because he had previous playoff success and it was believed that he would make this team a whole lot tougher.
As it turns out, this has proven to be true. The Leafs do play a grittier style of hockey and while it has sometimes come at the expense of offense, the team does defend itself nicely.
In fact, this has led to a shocking statistic that positions the Leafs as one of the more nastier teams in the National Hockey League.
Toronto Maple Leafs now known for fighting
According to Luke Fox of Sportsnet, the Toronto Maple Leafs have 11 different players with fighting majors this season which sounds unfathomable.
11 Maple Leafs have got a fighting major since Craig Berube became coach.
Fox subsequently listed off these players and it is quite shocking to see who made the list. Of course, Brandon Carlo is now here as he had his first fight with the team just last night.

After last night's game, Berube was asked about this trend and what he thinks of his team's reputation.
Essentially, the head coach is just happy to see his guys standing up for themselves regardless of what the situation may be.
It's very important you stand up for yourself. And not everybody. Look, first and foremost, I don't expect people to fight. Stand up for yourself. And the guys do that. We push back. We're not gonna get pushed around.
It is definitely cool to see the Maple Leafs taking this approach and it will prove to be a valuable one come playoff time.
Whether or not the Leafs can meet expectations, still remains to be seen.
