NHL Insider Pierre LeBrun Reveals Why John Tavares' Dominance is a Huge Problem for the Maple Leafs

Toronto Maple Leafs forward John Tavares is on an unbelievable tear as of late, however, this is eventually going to cause serious problems for the team.
John Tavares is someone who was expected to hit a wall this season as he continues to age and enter the twilight years of his career.
However, the forward has been absolutely sensational this season and has been completely tearing up the league despite all the chatter about losing the captaincy.
Last night, he had yet another two-goal game and he now has eight goals in the last five games. This has brought him up to 35 goals this season.
John Tavares increases the price on the Toronto Maple Leafs
While Maple Leafs fans were celebrating Tavares' game as well as a hard-fought win, Pierre LeBrun rained on the parade a bit although he was justified in doing so.
In a tweet, the NHL insider revealed that while the production is great, it is now going to cost the Leafs a whole lot more to re-sign the forward.
Totally get why the Leafs would wait but I will say, whatever discount number was available in September has now gone up, not just because of Tavares' strong season but also because of the escalating cap numbers announced by the NHL.
The Maple Leafs had been taking a wait and see approach with Tavares and were hoping that he would come at a discount around July 1st.
That is absolutely no longer the case and with Mitch Marner and Matthew Knies also awaiting contracts, things could get very messy here.
While the team is now focused on the playoffs and winning the Atlantic Division, there is no doubt that the Tavares situation should be on their minds.x
Hopefully, the forward shows a bit of mercy towards his hometown team as they look to keep the core four together.
