Craig Berube reveals the biggest problem with the Toronto Maple Leafs

Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube has had a lot to fix since becoming the team's bench boss.
As it turns out, there is one area in particular that Berube would like to see some improvement on. That area just so happens to be discipline. The team has the 13th most penalties in the entire NHL. Through 10 games, they have 95 penalty minutes.
While this could be a whole lot worse, Berube thinks it could still be a lot better. Moreover, he thinks that the issue is just how many penalties the team is taking late in games, which shoots them in the foot.
During a scrum with reporters, Berube explained how he has addressed the issue and the steps that need to be taken to ensure that this does not become a sustained problem.
"Well, it is addressed. You can sit guys for shifts, as I have. There are a lot of things, but the penalties aren't from a guy going off-page and taking a penalty. It is managing being aggressive with your stick and doing things right.
There are penalties that you can deal with. If there is a scoring opportunity and someone has to make a desperate play, he may have to take a penalty, but we have taken three or four in the offensive zone. Those are the ones that bother me the most. They are 200 feet from our net. We have to be smarter than that.
In the third period, too, we took one in Boston. In Winnipeg, we took two in the third. Really, they weren't necessary. There was no danger anywhere. We just have to be better."

Only time will tell whether or not this is something the Leafs can get over. They take on the Seattle Kraken today and now is as good of a time as ever to start acting more disciplined.
