David Kampf's Fate Sealed in Toronto as Marlies Unveil Opening Night Roster

Toronto Maple Leafs forward David Kampf was shopped around all summer long, and now that the Leafs have their roster set, the veteran finds himself deep in the AHL.
David Kampf is one of the players that the Toronto Maple Leafs were looking at trading during the offseason. However, a deal never came to fruition.
During training camp, it was becoming as clear as day that Kampf has run out of favor with the franchise and that the Leafs didn't have much interest in keeping him around.
When it came time to finalize the NHL roster, Kampf was put on waivers, where he eventually cleared and then went to the Toronto Marlies.

On Friday night, the Marlies are taking on the Rochester Americans in their first game of the season, and prior to that, the team put out its roster.
As you can see below, none other than David Kampf is on that roster, which tells us that it is going to be a while before he comes up to the Leafs.
The Maple Leafs currently have Sammy Blais and Easton Cowan as their spare forwards. As a result, it is hard to imagine Kampf finding a pathway to the roster.
Other guys like Michael Pezzetta also have difficult pathways to the NHL, and you have to wonder why the Leafs signed Pezzetta in the first place.
In the meantime, we imagine the Leafs will continue to try trading Kampf, as his place on the roster is practically non-existant.
