Last season, the Toronto Maple Leafs traded Fraser Minten to the Boston Bruins for Brandon Carlo, and the jury is still out on whether or not that was a good idea.
Fraser Minten is a player who came in with a whole lot of potential for the Toronto Maple Leafs. He had some solid games for the team last season, but spent most of his time in the AHL.
At the trade deadline, the Maple Leafs sent Minten to the Boston Bruins, as they received defenseman Brandon Carlo in return.
The Leafs were fulfilling a need when they made this trade, but still, there are some fans out there who felt like this was shortsighted, given what Minten could be.
Fraser Minten wins one for the Boston Bruins
After a win in their first game of the season, the Bruins were back in action on Thursday night against the Chicago Blackhawks, where they won 4-3 in overtime.
The win would not have been possible without Minten's brilliance. The forward scored the overtime winner, notching his first goal of the NHL season.
It was a big goal for the kid, and one that is certainly going to earn him a lot more ice time with the Boston Bruins going forward.
As for the Maple Leafs, Brandon Carlo is certainly more important to the Leafs than Minten is to the Bruins. However, that could change depending on how well Minten does this season.
Already, Minten is showing that he is ready for the bright lights of the NHL, and this is going to be a difficult thing for the Leafs to watch.
With
Nikita Grebenkin doing well out in Philadelphia, there is no denying that the Maple Leafs will have to think long and hard about trading prospects in the future.
