Easton Cowan's Latest Performances Prove the Toronto Maple Leafs Made the Right Choice

Easton Cowan had a bit of a rough time at the World Juniors while playing for Team Canada and it led to a whole bunch of questions about his game.

However, once he went back to the London Knights, he continued to dominate and has proven to be one of the better prospects the Leafs have had over the last few years.

At the trade deadline, the Maple Leafs could have traded Cowan, but instead, they opted to trade away Fraser Minten, cementing their commitment to Cowan and his development.

Based on the latest performances from the young Knights star, it has become crystal clear that the Maple Leafs made the right decision.

Why do we say this? Well, Cowan has had six multi-point games in a row, and has two games in a row with four assists.

In 43 games this season, he has 27 goals and 63 points which makes him one of the best players in the OHL. This is the kind of production that the Maple Leafs brass has been hoping for.

Next season, Easton Cowan will be graduating from the OHL and will either be playing for the Maple Leafs or the Marlies.

Overall, there is this sense that he is good enough to make the Leafs and even play on their third line.

He still has a long way to go in terms of his development, but there is no doubt that he is off to a good start and could very well be a star for years to come.

While Minten is someone who will definitely be missed, Cowan was the right young gun to keep around.
