Elliotte Friedman Reveals How Much it Would Cost for the Leafs to Acquire Connor McDavid

Connor McDavid just lost another Stanley Cup Finals, and the Edmonton Oilers are feeling the heat as the best player in the world has never won Hockey's biggest trophy.

The superstar forward is set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2026, and there are a ton of teams hoping to take advantage. While it feels inconceivable that McDavid would leave, his recent comments suggest it is at least possible.

Consequently, Toronto Maple Leafs fans have been holding out hope that McDavid would consider the legendary franchise. After all, the Leafs are his childhood team.

Recently, Elliotte Friedman spoke about Connor McDavid on '32 Thoughts,' and the conversation was primarily around how much the superstar is going to cost the team that signs him.

As the NHL insider explains, the forward is going to get a record-breaking deal. If the Leafs wanted to sign him, they would have to spend upwards of $16-$17 million per season.

McDavid was never going to come cheap, and the entire league will want to sign him. Needless to say, the Leafs will have some competition.

Quite frankly, the Toronto Maple Leafs shouldn't put all of their eggs in the McDavid basket. The idea of him signing here is extremely far-fetched.

But with Mitch Marner likely on his way out, this is one of those fantasies that Leafs fans will probably engage in for the next year.

As for Oilers fans, they are probably feeling a lot of anxiety right now, and we can understand where they are coming from. After all, this is not a good position to be in.
