Florida Panthers forward Sam Bennett is set to be highly sought after in free agency, and the Toronto Maple Leafs will be one of the teams looking to poke around.
Sam Bennett is a popular man in South Florida right now as he was able to win the Stanley Cup, while also getting himself the Conn Smythe trophy.
Overall, it was a crowning achievement for the forward, who is set to become a free agent this summer.
Just a couple of nights ago, while celebrating with his Panthers teammates, Bennett made it absolutely clear that he wants to stay in Florida for the long haul.
While this feels like a guarantee of his loyalty, there haven't been any real updates in his negotiations. This was confirmed by Bennett's agent Darren Ferris.
"It was an incredible and emotional night for the Panthers and well-deserved," Ferris said. "The celebrations have been amazing to see, and Sam's just taking it all in with his teammates right now. At this time, no contract has been signed - when there's something official, we'll share it accordingly."
Ultimately, this is good news for the Toronto Maple Leafs, who have an interest in Bennett. Days ago, they were dead in the water. Now, they still have a shot.
