Following the Hockey Canada trial, many hockey fans have been wondering if the NHL would reinstate the five players who were allegedly involved.
The Hockey Canada five trial included players like Carter Hart, Cal Foote, Dillon Dube,
Alex Formenton, and Michael McLeod.
Eventually, all five players were found not guilty, and the charges were subsequently dropped. Now, their hockey futures are in limbo as they have yet to be reinstated by the NHL.
None of these players is in high demand right now, and for good reason. However, if anyone were to get an NHL contract this season, it would probably be goaltender Carter Hart.
Elliotte Friedman on the Hockey Canada five
In the latest episode of '
32 Thoughts,' Elliotte Friedman made some interesting comments about the Hockey Canada Five and their current standing with the league.
For now, they remain on the outside looking in. They have yet to apply for reinstatement, and the NHL won't do anything until that changes.
It's clear that for the league, nothing has changed, the players still have to apply for reinstatement; we don't have any clarity on that yet
There are fans throughout the league who believe these players should be banned for life. However, others are keen on giving a second chance, given the results of the trial.
Whatever the case may be, this is a situation that the NHL is going to have to navigate very carefully; otherwise, they could be headed for a PR disaster.
It makes sense that the league's 32 teams would be hesitant about showing interest in any of these five men.
Only time will tell whether or not the NHL makes the controversial decision, or they simply wait it out until the dust settles.
