NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman originally had plans for an All-Star game in 2026 but with the Milan Olympics coming up, plans have seemingly changed.
Next year,
NHL players will be going back to the Olympics as the Winter Games are set to take place in Milan, Italy.
This has led to speculation about the need for an All-Star Game, which was technically set to return in 2026. Fans weren't keen on the idea but the NHL seemed like they wanted to follow through.
Is there going to be an NHL All-Star Game in 2026?
In a recent appearance on John Ourand's "The Varisty" podcast, Gary Bettman was a guest and spoke about a plethora of topics.
Shockingly, the commissioner went back on his word, noting that it is very likely that the All-Star Game will be canceled.
"We probably won't do an All-Star Game. We will do something, but it is going to be focused on the Olympics. We have yet to finalize what we are doing, but we understand that the players playing in the Olympics are going to be very focused on getting to Milan."
This is the move that is best for everyone and you have to commend the commissioner for recognizing this and not forcing the players into a bad situation.
Overall, the NHL has a lot going on right now and making the best players do an All-Star Game weeks before the Olympics is certainly a distraction.
Having said that, next year is going to be fascinating and we cannot wait to see how it all plays out in the end.
