Insider Delivers Sobering Update on Brad Treliving's Free Agency Plans

Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving has a lot to figure out this summer, and according to one insider, free agency is going to be a trying process.
In the eyes of some fans, this has been an incredibly slow start to free agency for the Toronto Maple Leafs. The team has yet to sign big-name players, and their biggest move was losing Mitch Marner.
However, the market this season is thin, and general manager Brad Treliving can only do so much before things dry up further.
Having said that, the fans are hopeful that things will change. After trading Ryan Reaves, the Leafs now have $5 million cap space.
Brad Treliving's plans for the Toronto Maple Leafs
According to NHL reporter Greg Wyshynski, the fans in Toronto shouldn't expect Treliving to go on a shopping spree anytime soon.
Instead, Treliving is going to be strategic, as spending money for the fun of it rarely ever works out.
I ultimately don't know how philosophically how 'all in' [the Leafs] are gonna be this summer even with the cap space they have; they aren't gonna just spend to spend, at least I don't think that's kinda where Treliving's head is at
Instead, fans should be expecting the team to look at trades. A trade is where the Leafs can get themselves a top-six player.
Unfortunately, the Leafs are strapped for assets. This will make things even tougher for them over the coming weeks and months.
Treliving is not in an enviable position, and the fans understand what he is going through. We can only hope he pulls through.
