Toronto Maple Leafs forward David Kampf is in his final days with the team, although it remains to be seen how this saga will end, given a recent report.
The
Toronto Maple Leafs and David Kampf are working on a solution for Kampf to officially exit the team. He is no longer happy in Toronto and wants a fresh start.
Of course, the Maple Leafs would much rather make a trade. After all, who wants to lose a player for absolutely nothing? That would be a disaster.
Unfortunately, trading David Kampf has proven to be a huge problem. According to Chris Johnston, there appears to be one major hurdle here.
David Kampf and the Toronto Maple Leafs near a solution
Essentially, teams will only trade for David Kampf if they can dump a bad contract in the Leafs' lap. General Manager Brad Treliving doesn't want to do this, and therefore, the Leafs are having issues.
Not too many teams are eager to take on his contract...the Leafs are not in the mood to just take back some garbage contract
The Kampf situation was supposed to be resolved by today, but it doesn't appear as though that is going to be the case.
It is unfortunate, although the one caveat here is that both sides are still amicable right now, which is good to see.
Only time will tell whether or not everyone involved is able to figure this out. For the sake of both sides, we hope it happens soon.
A trade would be fantastic, and with the Leafs going through a rut right now, a new player could potentially add lots of energy to the team.
