Going into 2026, Kirill Kaprizov of the Minnesota Wild will officially become a free agent, and the Toronto Maple Leafs could be one of the teams to make a move.
Free agency in 2026 is going to be a whole lot of fun, and there is currently a ton of discourse surrounding the Toronto Maple Leafs and what their plans are.
However, there are other stars who will be on the market, including
Kirill Kaprizov, at least potentially. He's hit over 100 points in the past and is seen as the Minnesota Wild's best superstar.
Kirill Kaprizov negotiates a new deal with the Minnesota Wild
According to reporter Michael Russo, Kaprizov and the Wild are currently in contract negotiations, and while they are close on money, there are some other issues at play.
Needless to say, things could go south here, and if a deal isn't done before the start of the season, this could drag out until the Summer of 2026.
I think the Wild, financially they're not far apart, I think though, there's some stuff that...has been lost in translation this offseason; Guerin is waiting for him to get back to Minnesota
If Kaprizov does, indeed, become a free agent, then Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving needs to seriously consider making a move here.
This could seriously shake up the Maple Leafs in a positive way, and it would make no sense for the Leafs not to go after Kaprizov.
He would be the perfect replacement for
Mitch Marner, and the Leafs would have plenty of cap space to make a signing like this happen.
Of course, it is a long-shot, but when you are the GM of the Leafs, you have to take a leap of faith.
