Major Development in the Toronto Maple Leafs Signing Jonathan Toews, and It's Confirmed

Jonathan Toews had to take a two-year NHL hiatus due to health issues; however, he seems to be doing okay again. So much so that he wants to make one final return to the ice.

At 37 years old, the forward can still contribute. While he may not be able to give you a point per game, or even half a point per game, he is still a veteran presence that could improve a team's bottom six.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are one of the many teams intrigued with the idea of signing Toews, and it is very easy to see why that would be the case.

It has been stated that the Leafs are actually near the top of Toews' list. This is great news for fans, although many are starting to wonder when he will make a decision.

Unfortunately, he can only officially sign a deal as of July 1st. However, he can agree to sign with a team before then. As it turns out, that is exactly what he intends to do.

According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, Toews will be making his free agency decision prior to the NHL Draft, which takes place on June 27th.

This is a pretty big deal, and it could have major implications for the Toronto Maple Leafs, who have reportedly made some phone calls to Toews' agent, Pat Brisson.

These next few weeks will be nerve-wracking for Leafs fans. They must deal with the status of Mitch Marner while also awaiting some news about John Tavares and Matthew Knies.
