Matias Maccelli's Projected Contract Extension Has Been Unveiled

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Matias Maccelli is about to play his first full season with the team, and a contract extension could follow if he has himself a bounce-back season.
Matias Maccelli is a player who is looking for a bit of redemption this season. We say that because after a 57-point season with the Arizona Coyotes, Maccelli had just 18 points with the Utah Mammoth.
Overall, his dip in production was a surprising one, and it left the Mammoth contemplating his future, especially with one year left on his deal with an AAV of $3.425 million per season.
Now, he is gearing up for a big season with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and there is a lot of speculation about what kind of year he will have in a new environment.
Is Matias Maccelli worthy of a contract extension?
In fact, Maccelli is going into the final year of his deal, which means he will be a restricted free agent during the summer of 2026.
This presents the Leafs with an opportunity to sign the forward to a contract extension. Of course, the terms of the deal will depend on whether or not he can become a 50-point player again.
Having said that, a new piece from The Leafs Nation suggests that if Maccelli does, indeed, get back to his old ways, he could make upwards of $4.2 million per season.

When both sides better understand each other there will likely at least be good reason for the Leafs to get something done in season while Maccelli would probably be best off pushing things right up to the brink of arbitration.
Overall, the Leafs would love it if Maccelli became a top-six forward that can provide some offense on a line with Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies.
However, the team will have to give the forward some grace. Last season was tough, and he may need some adjusting going forward.
Having said that, it will be very interesting to see how Maccelli develops and if he is someone the Leafs want around for the long term.
