Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk is attempting to play mind games on the Toronto Maple Leafs and by all intents and purposes, it might just be working.
Matthew Tkachuk is someone who knows how to provoke people and that is a very valuable skill once you reach the postseason.
Overall, Toronto Maple Leafs fans hate the guy and that is a very valid feeling especially when you consider how the Florida Panthers will be in town on Monday.
Earlier today, we reported on how Tkachuk is already trying to get in the heads of Maple Leafs players, noting their lack of playoff success.
Matthew Tkachuk attempts to expose the Toronto Maple Leafs
During an interview with Pat McAfee, Tkachuk continued his assault on the Maple Leafs and even tried to bring his brother Brady into it.
Of course, Brady recently played against the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first round of the NHL Playoffs. Consequently, Matthew claims Brady told him all of the Maple Leafs players who are battling an injury.
"I'll give [Brady] a call and ask him what he saw throughout the series, little things," Matthew said. "I'll ask a lot about individuals, like, what you can exploit with some guys, what guys maybe get a little too riled up, guys you can get off their game, what guys are looking like they're playing through stuff or look a little injured. It's all the little stuff I'll ask him. It's playoffs. Every advantage you can get, and it's nice having my brother that just played them, so he'll give me the honest truth."
Whether or not this is true, is impossible to say. However, this is a great strategy to get into some heads.
Overall, Tkachuk is a master of strategizing, and it seems like he is bringing that to this second round series.
The Maple Leafs are coming into this as underdogs and it will be fascinating to see if they can overcome the odds to have a huge series.
If one thing is for certain, it is that Tkachuk is not going to make that easy. He is a tough guy to play against and the Leafs already know this.
