Mitch Marner has authored a heartfelt post to Toronto Maple Leafs fans after being traded to the Las Vegas Golden Knights in a sign-and-trade on Monday.
Yesterday was a big one for Mitch Marner and the Toronto Maple Leafs franchise as both sides officially decided it was time to call it.
With the team understanding that Marner wanted to go elsewhere, they gave him exactly what he wanted. In a sign-and-trade, the Leafs got Nicolas Roy, while the Golden Knights got Marner for eight years and $96 million.
With the trade being made official this morning, Mitch Marner took to Instagram, where he delivered a heartfelt message to Leafs fans that will surely hit close to home.
Throughout this message, Marner revealed just how much it meant to him to play for the Toronto Maple Leafs, his hometown team.
He thanked his teammates, the fans, the coaching staff, and everyone who was able to make his years in Toronto possible. Funny enough, the front office was omitted from his message.
Regardless, fans are distraught over this news. While some knew this was coming, others still feel shaken to their core and don't know how to take all of this right now.

Ultimately, this is going to be a massive upcoming season for Marner, who must now prove that he can help a contender win a championship.
While Leafs fans are sad to see him go, this marks the beginning of a new era that could be beneficial to all sides involved.
