Former Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner was recently asked about Easton Cowan, and it led to some comments that Leafs fans should pay attention to.

Mitch Marner recently left the Toronto Maple Leafs for the Las Vegas Golden Knights, and a lot of Maple Leafs fans hate him for that.
However, it appears as though he is still connected to the team in one specific aspect. Of course, we are talking about fellow London Knights alum, Easton Cowan.
Cowan is going to training camp with the Toronto Maple Leafs this season, and there are a ton of questions concerning whether or not he will make the team.
After a phenomenal Memorial Cup-winning season with the Knights, some believe he should get a chance, while others need to see a lot more.

Mitch Marner on Easton Cowan

While attending Orientation Camp for Team Canada, Mitch Marner was asked about Cowan. It led to some strong comments that should pique the curiosity of Leafs supporters.
Essentially, Marner noted that Cowan struggled at the World Juniors, and that he gave him advice following the tournament. Overall, he believes Cowan can be a great player in the league.
Like I said, I was talking to him a lot throughout the year, just checking in and making sure he was staying in the right headspace. Sometimes you start questioning things after the World Juniors didn't go the way everyone wanted it to, and that happens. I told him our team went through the same thing - we didn't have a great World Juniors. It gets tough; a lot of people say things and judge you for them. I told him, don't worry about it. Go to London, do your thing, and win a Memorial Cup - and he led the way the whole time and got the job done. That was great.
The Leafs are going to hope and pray that Cowan is the answer to all of their troubles at right wing.
As it stands, the Leafs need someone to play on the first line with Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies. Unfortunately, Cowan is too young and inexperienced for that.
With that in mind, training camp and the preseason will be the perfect litmus test to see if Cowan has what it takes to play at the NHL level.
Another year of development could prove torturous for the fanbase, but as the saying goes, good things are worth waiting for.
