Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly has caught a lot of heat as of late, and some have been envisioning a world where he waives his no-trade clause.

Morgan Rielly was the whipping boy for the Toronto Maple Leafs this season, as he had one of the worst campaigns of his professional career.
He went from 58 points in 72 games last season to 41 points in 82 games this season. Additionally, his defensive play was just not up to snuff for a guy of his stature.
Rielly is making $7.5 million per season all the way until 2030, and this has some wondering whether or not the Leafs should consider trading him.

Will Morgan Rielly waive his no-trade clause?

Of course, trading the defenseman is complicated when you realize that he has a no-trade clause. Simply put, Rielly controls his own destiny.
In a report for TSN, Pierre LeBrun confirmed as much. In fact, he noted that Rielly wants to be a Leaf for a very long time and that there is no way he waives his no-move clause.
I don't think this needs to be a talking point going forward.
For some Leafs fans, this is going to be a bit of a negative, and it is easy to see why they might feel that way. If Rielly continues to decline, then his contract will only become worse.
Having said that, players have down years all of the time, and this could simply be an example of this. There is no guarantee that Rielly will be worse next season.
Overall, the Leafs' major area of concern right now should be their star forwards like Mitch Marner, John Tavares, and Matthew Knies.
These three need contracts, and there is a feeling that only two will be remaining with the Leafs next season. No matter what, this is all very fascinating.
