Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz was injured by Sam Bennett without a single penalty but the referees involved gives us a clue as to how that happened.

By now, everyone knows that Anthony Stolarz was injured by Florida Panthers forward Sam Bennett in Game 1, much to the chagrin of Leafs Nation.
Meanwhile, the NHL refused to suspend Sam Bennett for the infraction, and the officials wouldn't even give him a penalty. This has led to increased scrutiny surrounding the league and its lack of consistency around officiating.

NHL referees under scrutiny

As Kevin Papetti of The Athletic revealed, fans should not be surprised by what happened. After all, Graham Skilliter and Chris Rooney are the same referees who presided over the infamous playoff game in 2023 where Sam Bennett gave Matthew Knies a concussion.
Bennett did not receive a penalty for that hit, and he didn't receive one for what he did to Stolarz either. Clearly, we see a pattern with these two officials.
Bennett also did not receive a penalty when he gave Knies a concussion two years ago.

The officials that night? Graham Skilliter and Chris Rooney - the same as tonight.
Tonight, the Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers will play in Game 2, which should prove to be very interesting when you consider what happened to Stolarz.
Fans want to see the Maple Leafs retaliate or maybe even adjust their roster in a way that will deter the Panthers from playing a dirty brand of hockey.
That said, the Maple Leafs have a 1-0 lead in the series and the goal tonight should be to increase that lead. That means playing your own game.
No matter what, we cannot wait to watch how this all goes down and if the Leafs can prove to everyone that they are actually a tough group.
