Florida Panthers head coach Paul Maurice has been toying with the media as of late, and his words have implications for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Paul Maurice and the Florida Panthers have caught a whole lot of flak this postseason thanks to their antics.
In Game 1 against the Toronto Maple Leafs, Sam Bennett took out Anthony Stolarz, and in many ways, it ruined the Leafs' postseason run.
Now, the Panthers are beating up on the Carolina Hurricanes, and fans are accusing them once again of being goons.

Paul Maurice gets snippy about the Florida Panthers

Recently, Maurice was asked about his team's reputation for going after players but acting like angels following a game.
This led to a bizarre analogy about church and shotgunning beers.
I'll ask you two questions, and they might be personal so you don't have to answer them. Have you ever shotgunned a beer? Have you ever been to church, or something spiritual? OK. Would you shotgun a beer at church? That doesn't make you a hypocrite. There is a context and a place for all things.

I will tell you they are honest, these men are honest. That personality is all real. I hated Matthew Tkachuk, that's a little too strong, when I was in Winnipeg. Then you meet him, and you're like 'what a wonderful human being.'
Overall, this is the kind of answer that is going to drive some Maple Leafs fans up a wall, and for good reason.
Maurice ended his answer by stating that his team is gritty and that they play for one another as opposed to themselves as individuals.
They are hard on the ice, they are. But that's driven by how they feel about each other. They don't want to let the other guy down. There's a caring about them. These guys are different. Barkov's personality is our room. Sam Bennett and his wife are raising money for cats and dogs. They are really nice people.

And then the puck drops. Sometimes you say a prayer, sometimes you shotgun a beer. That's like our team.'

Ultimately, the Panthers look poised to win another Stanley Cup. If you are a Canadian, you can't help but root for the Edmonton Oilers right now.
