NHL insider Pierre LeBrun delivered a massive update on the John Tavares and Toronto Maple Leafs contract negotiations, which have been pretty taxing so far.
John Tavares and the Toronto Maple Leafs are in the midst of a contract negotiation that is going a lot worse than some fans would have expected.
Of course, the forward is coming off a season in which he had 38 goals, so it is no wonder that he is looking for an advantageous deal that rewards him for his efforts.

Well, it would appear as though the Maple Leafs could end these negotiations tomorrow with a fairly reasonable deal that would pay Tavares $20 million over the next four seasons.
Pierre LeBrun believes a four-year deal at an AAV of $5 million would be good for the former captain and that he would accept that in a heartbeat.
I believe if the Maple Leafs put a $5x4 deal in front of John Tavares, he would sign it
While the forward is 34, Marchand is 37 and could get double his salary, with less regular-season production. Of course, the playoff factor is what attracts so many teams to Marchand.
Whatever the case may be, this is going to be a fascinating moment for the Leafs, who absolutely need to improve this roster throughout the summer.
If they cannot get that done, then there are going to be a lot of upset fans out there, and rightfully so.
