Free agency hasn't even begun yet, and the Toronto Maple Leafs are already unveiling their preseason schedule for next season, beginning in September.
Toronto Maple Leafs fans are feeling pretty anxious these days, especially in light of the team's loss to the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The last thing on anyone's mind right now is the Maple Leafs playing more hockey. We don't even know what this roster is going to look like in a few weeks from today.
However, that did not stop the franchise from unveiling its preseason schedule, three months before a single game is even going to be played.
Toronto Maple Leafs preseasons schedule
As you can see below, the first game will be on September 21st and it will take place against the Ottawa Senators. This is part of a home and home, with the first game in Ottawa and the second in Toronto.
Later that week, the team will play a home-and-home with the Montreal Canadiens. Subsequently, they will wrap things up with two games against the Detroit Red Wings.
Only six preseason games are being played, three of which will be at home. Whether or not these games will tell us anything about the team remains to be seen.
If one thing is clear, there is some skepticism heading into next season, and that is most definitely deserved given the factors at play.
Having said that, fans need to keep the faith here; otherwise, they are going to drive themselves pretty crazy.
General manager Brad Treliving is working hard for his franchise right now, and we cannot wait to see what he does over the coming weeks.
