The NHL has made some tough decisions involving their referees ahead of Round 2 of the NHL Playoffs and some just so happened to officiate the Toronto Maple Leafs.
During the first round of the NHL Playoffs, the
Toronto Maple Leafs played against the Ottawa Senators and for the most part, the officiating was solid.
While there were some missed calls here and there, fans can't complain about the way the team was officiated. For all intents and purposes, it was fair.
Of course, those going home are not fired. They will be back next season. They just won't officiate the rest of the NHL Playoffs.
NHL gets rid of a few referees
As it turns out, three officials who were referees during the first round between the Leafs and the Senators, have been told to stay home until next season.
According to Maple Leafs Daily, those three referees are Frederick L'Ecuyer, Brian Pochmara, and Peter MacDougall.
L'Ecuyer was responsible for Game 5, while MacDougall was in charge during Game 4. As for Pochmara, he was the referee in Game 1. Two of these officials were there for Leafs losses.
Tonight, the Maple Leafs must forget about the officials. Instead, they must focus on the Florida Panthers and the challenge they pose to them.
It is going to be a tough series but with some home ice advantage, there is always a chance that the Leafs can come through with a big victory.
Only time will tell whether or not the Leafs can shock the hockey world or reclaim their status as playoff losers.
